Dealerships sell. We detail.
To them, it’s just a commission. To us, it’s craft.
You can relax knowing your vehicle is in safe hands.
Paint Protection Film (PPF) is a thick, durable layer that comes in a range of finishes, designed to conform seamlessly to your vehicle’s surfaces and contours. Most installations begin with precision plotting via a Graphtec FC9000 — a CNC cutter that uses a subscription-based database to download exact vehicle templates. From there, each section is cut to spec and prepped for fitment. This is where experience — and more importantly, patience — truly matter.
What does PPF protect?
PPF eliminates swirl marks completely thanks to its self-healing properties. This keeps the depth, gloss, and clarity of your paintwork in peak condition — especially when paired with a ceramic coating. It also defends against rock chips, light abrasions, and surface-level scratches, making it an essential layer of physical protection.
At Thomas Mayer Automotive Detailing, every piece of PPF is tailored to suit your specific needs.
Whether it’s headlights, side skirts, boot entry panels, full front-end kits, temporary track packs, or full bulk-fitted boutique coverage — no matter the car, we believe everything deserves to be protected properly.
Photographing PPF is notoriously tricky — check our social media to see the level of work we're currently turning out.

Paint Protection Film
Paint Protection Film is a physical barrier designed to fit your car like a glove. It is excellent at stopping physical damage such as swirl marks, scratches and rock chips. With self healing abilities its understandable as to why PPF is leading the market
Modesta Glass Coatings
Ceramic Coatings are every where today. Getting the right one is tricky. Many shops just have a single solution to cater for every situation. It shouldn't be this way at all. Come find out which coating best suits your needs today.
Paint Correction
Removing swirl marks, etched water spots and sometimes deeper scratches. Paint Corrections is where we began. We take great pride in our correction work that we under promise and over deliver.
Everyone has a unique situation, every job is different and is treated as such.
The PPF market is saturated with brands all promising the same warranties — but the truth is, only a handful actually manufacture their own film. The rest? Just white-labelled versions from the same factories.
While budget naturally influences your choice, the reputation of the brand plays a far more critical role long term. When issues arise, it's not your detailer you’ll be relying on — it’s the manufacturer. That’s where trusted brands stand apart: real support, real accountability.
It’s quite simple. A ceramic coating enhances your vehicle's shine, depth, and clarity every time it’s washed. When combined with proper washing techniques, coatings can offer protection that lasts for years—not just months.
Depending on your needs, we’ll guide you through a selection process to find the product that best suits your situation. There’s no such thing as a one-size-fits-all solution. If a product claims to do everything, compromises have likely been made. Instead, we tailor a package to suit you and your vehicle.
Take Modesta Private Label, for example. It’s not suited to a daily driver that lives outdoors and doesn’t receive regular care from a detailer. But for a garage queen or an exotic vehicle that’s used sparingly and expected to look flawless, Private Label is ideal. Its visual impact is unmatched when maintained correctly.
On the other hand, for your daily driver, we offer options like Modesta BC-X and a Teflon alternative that balance performance, durability, and ease of maintenance.
Get in touch, and we’ll help you choose the right protection based on how you use your vehicle and how you want it to look long-term.
It all sounds amazing and bulletproof — but what does reality actually look like?
Let’s take a minute and break down what’s really being claimed.
A coating needs to be strong or hard to resist physical abrasion.
Cool. Tell me more…
"9H/10H hardness" — This is false advertising right off the bat. You're trying to tell me your cheap little liquid is harder than a diamond, which forms under extreme pressure over tens of thousands of years?
Stronger than a diamond?
Cool story, bro.
A good-quality coating adds strength to the underlying substrate — primarily the clear coat. It helps reduce the chances of marring, which is typically caused by friction or contaminants rubbing against the paintwork.
Which brings me to my next point: flexibility.
Australia experiences extreme weather — scorching heat in the North West, high humidity in the tropics, snow in the Victorian Alps. A coating must be flexible enough to expand and contract with its environment.
A coating that’s too hard simply can’t cope with years of temperature fluctuations.
A coating should also enhance gloss and clarity.
Graphene, in theory, is an incredible material — but let’s be real. Imagine shaving the tip of your lead pencil into a liquid. It’s going to darken the product and introduce coarse particles that, when applied to paint, can cause marks.
So, adding dullness and marring to your paintwork?
That’s the opposite of what you want.
Self-healing coatings — even I want to believe in them.
BUT they are massively overpromised.
If you want real self-healing, you get Paint Protection Film (PPF).
Self-healing coatings can only repair very minor abrasions — and even then, not always effectively.
Why? Because they rely on being soft and flexible.
But here's the catch: when something is too flexible, it marks easily.
It’s like bending a piece of metal — it might flex a few times, but eventually, it breaks.
So, what does all this mean?
Quite frankly, most people out there are full of shit. They have no chemical understanding of the products they’re installing, and the warranties they hand out don’t hold up under any real-world variation.
That’s why we don’t offer coatings with an arbitrary “X-year” lifespan.
A vehicle kept in an air-conditioned garage and driven six times a year is going to have a completely different outcome compared to one that lives under a gum tree and gets washed twice a year.
Same coating — vastly different results.
TL;DR:
I take my profession seriously.
I do the research, so you don’t have to.
Period.
The below picture is from a metallurgic microscope at 400x. It shows of a solution with Graphene Oxide dispersed throughout. It is inconsistent in shape, decreases gloss and most importantly has not formed its 2 dimensional lattice. Also graphene is not flexible.

Paint Protection Film is a clear or coloured polyurethane film applied to your vehicle's surface to protect against stone chips, scratches, swirl marks, and light abrasions. It’s a high-ticket item, but for those wanting to preserve their paint in real-world conditions, it’s often the most effective option available.
Because we don’t just apply products—we offer tailored solutions based on how you actually use your vehicle.
What sets us apart?
No One-Size-Fits-All Packages
We don’t force generic options. Every car, and every owner, has specific needs. We take the time to understand your use case—daily driver, weekend cruiser, off-roader, or showpiece—and build a plan around that.
Realistic Advice, Not Hype
We’re not here to sell you snake oil. If something isn’t necessary, we’ll tell you. If compromises exist in a product, we’ll explain them clearly. Transparency comes first.
Installer Skill & Product Knowledge
Whether it's a high-end ceramic coating like Modesta or complex PPF installs, you're dealing with someone who actually understands the chemistry and the technique—not someone following a sales script.
We Care About Long-Term Results
"Just a quick wash" That's not what we are about —it’s about long-term satisfaction. That includes proper prep, thoughtful application, and education on how to maintain the finish.
Premium Materials, Used Properly
We use top-tier products from proven brands—not the latest trend. But more importantly, we know when (and when not) to use them.
Detailing Is Our Craft, Not a Side Hustle
This isn’t a volume-based car wash. Detailing is the core of what we do, and we take it very seriously.
If you’re after long-term value, clear communication with a lasting , and a finish that reflects care—not shortcuts—we’re here for that.
I started my detailing journey like the cliche — out of Mum’s garage. At a crossroads in life, I was choosing between Software Development and Detailing. The decision was simple in the end: Detailing gave me a genuine sense of fulfilment. I never found myself dreading a day’s work.
Since ceramic coating my first vehicle in 2018, I’ve pursued advanced training both interstate and internationally. Along the way, I’ve built strong relationships within the detailing community — connecting with like-minded professionals, suppliers, and distributors.
Today, I’m fortunate to be approached by companies to trial new products, provide guidance to fellow detailers, and run hands-on training nights for local car clubs. What started in a garage has grown into a purpose-driven business built on passion, knowledge, and pride in the craft.
So come pop past the shop, 639 Magill Rd, Magill 5072
Ever since our first ceramic coating install in 2018 we have achieved a fair few goals.
